M=Master EX=Expert SS=Sharp Shooter M=Marksman SCP=Scope HS=High Senior HW=High Woman ML=Muzzle Loader MR=Military Rfile TOL=Tollofson Gov Tr=Governor's Trophy BOLD=Tentative Nat. Record (High Match Score)
It was a wonderful weekend for the match even though it threatened to rain. We had new 6'x6' targets to help see our hits and guard rail covers in the pits giving a new look to a time honored match. For the first time since 2007 we had 2 women shooters, who both shot extremely well. Barb Walters won the Governor's Trophy this year. She has come close several times and got it this year. She is the first woman to win the trophy since it began and she set a new National Record in the process. Quite a feat in the horrendous winds that had so many at a loss. We had Muzzle Loaders from 4 states that are on the U.S. International Muzzle Loaders Team getting ready for a match in Africa in Sept. Their Captain, on of our regular shooters, Ray Hopkins, Richard Page,Mike Pifer and Doug Wilson. We wish them well in their competition this fall. LeRoy Sleight came and shot his first match at Grayling, we hope to see him back at future matches. Zack Stockdale, Jim Primeau and Tina Bruske all came back and shot their 2nd time at Grayling. All of them got their first "X" pins ( shooting the 10" X @ 1000 yds.) so congratulations to them and congratulations to all the winners. I want to thank Ray Saltzman for donating money to pay for the structure wood for the guard rail covers, and also thank everyone who helped work on, set up and run the match. Thank you everyone for coming and making this such an enjoyable event. Your Black Powder Committee Members that were in attendance Bill Bruske,Ron Walters,Ray Saltzman and R.K. Scott.
