At it's fall Board of the Directors meeting, the board decided to offer a temporary Life Memberhip deal. Members over the age of 50 (by December 1, 2025) may upgrade their annual membership to Life Member for the special cost of $250.00 (regularly $350.00).

This is available on-line. Your age will be verified. If you have recently renewed (after December 1, 2025) you will be given credit for your $30 renewal fee.

2025 Michigan Mid-Range Prone Championship Results

On Saturday, August 30, 2025 the Midland County Sportsman’s Club and the Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association conducted the 2025 Michigan Mid-Range Prone Championship. Like last year, we filled the range with thirty-two (32) competitors. The weather was wonderful, sunny with just a slight breeze. The conditions were gentle, but required some attention to avoid getting caught with a switch.

We had ten (10) F-Open shooters. Cruz Stoneburner set the pace with a 599-41X (I was scoring him, he lost his last shot, damn…). Second was Peter Stumpo with a 599-33X, and third was Mike Ruhlman with a 597-32X.

In F-TR Leo Cebula started with a seven (7) for his first record shot, but managed to keep it together to finish with a 592-25X, followed by Mike Boughner with a 592-18X, and Greg Erkkila with a 587-21X.

Due to just a few Palma shooters we combined them with the Match Rifle Optical competitors. The finish was a family affair with Hanne Brantner firing a Palma rifle besting the field with a 593-27X. Followed by Nathan Abrams, also firing a Palma rifle with a 592-22X, and then his dad Jack Abrams with a 591-26X. Of note amongst the Palma shooters was Ray Gross with a 590-47X. Unfortunately, Ray tried to complete a 600 with a ten (10) on an adjacent target.

For Service Rifle the high shooter of the four (4) entered was Andrew Griggs with a 586-20X. Of the three (3) AR-Tactical competitors David Schultz won with a 586-31X.

The Michigan F-TR team traveled to the Winnequah Gun Club in Lodi, Wisconsin for the 2025 National F-Class Championship. The Championship was divided into two phases: Mid-Range, and Long-Range.

In the Mid-Range Championship Leo Cebula won three individual matches, and placed in three others finishing second in the National Championship. Interestingly was the age difference between Leo and the National Champion, Gabriel Gavrock who was nineteen, versus Leo at seventy-seven. Not quite sixty years, but close. In the top ten, Steve Beebe was eight, Richard Dixon was ninth, and Jim Grissom finished tenth.

In the Mid-Range Team match aggregate the Michigan F-TR team finished fourth missing medaling by X's. The team was composed of Richard Dixon, Steve Beebe, Doug Boyer, and Leo Cebula. With Robin Retzloff as Captain, Jim Grissom as coach, and Fred Cook as alternate.

In the Long Range, Robin won two individual matches, a daily aggregate, and placed in two more, plus finishing fourth in the National Championship aggregate.

In other news, MRPA members Dale Lucy finished second in the National Championship aggregate and Seth Stoneburner won an individual match in the Long-Range aggregate.

Final Results

The conditions at the Marksmanship Training Center (MTC) were on the whole mild. Warm enough for shorts, but not so warm to be uncomfortable. We had 38 competitors, almost a sell out (but for a few missteps with competitor equipment we would have been a sell out).

In the F-Open Category the Winner was Darwin Maidens with a 976-33X. He was followed by Jim Davis 972-25X, and Jeff Gohl 964-29X.

In F-TR the Winner was Dale Lucy with a 971-35X, with Keith Conrad at 964-26X and Doug Boyer at 963-29X.

For sling shooters, in Palma the Winner was Hanne Brantner with a 987-49X, chased closely at Bob Steketee with a 985-49X, and Jamie Root with a 975-25X.

For the Any Rifle shooters, we had two, the Winner was Peter Church with a 980-37X, and Tom Weber with a 950-24X.

The next match at the MTC is on July 10-11, 2021. This will be the Michigan Long Range Championship. Program is: Michigan Long Range Championship.

On a nice, but surprisingly windy day over Memorial Day Weekend, the 29th of May 2021 the Michigan Fullbore Rifle Prone Championship was held. Sixteen hardy competitors fired in winds of 10-20 MPH with sudden gusts.

A glimpse of the wind this morning. Midland County is normally a relatively protected range. Not so much today. That flag was pretty consistent, but we suffered from varying gusts throughout the day.

Our State Champions this year are:

Larry Remsnyder, F-TR 440-15X, Marcel Bollinger, F-Open 444-21X, and for Target Rifle, Jamie Root 440-17X.

After today's competition the competitors were treated to a Birthday Party luncheon in the block house at the range. Ray Gross was celebrating his 18th anniversary of his 39th birthday. Thank you, Nora Kay Folts, Ray's significant other.

Competitors,

Happy New Year to All. With just a little bit of luck this year may prove to be less challenging than last. Time will tell.

Our match schedule for 2021 will be:

June 12 and 13, 2021 for the Michigan State 1000 yd. Championship; July 10 and 11, 2021 for the Michigan State Long Range Championship; August 13, 2021 for the Michigan State Long Range Team Match Championships; and August 14 and 15, 2021 for the Michigan Long Range / F-Class Regional.

All these matches will be held at the Marksmanship Training Center located in Lake City, MI. The programs for these events will be published in the near future. There will be a couple changes within administrative policies for all of these matches this year. In particular, a paid registration will be required to reserve a spot for a match. In addition to this, the cancellation policy that will be in place will read as follows:

‘Notice of cancellation made to the Match Director seven (7) days prior to the initial match date will be refunded 90% of the entry fee. Cancellations made within seven (7) days of the initial date of an event, including “NO SHOWS” the day of the event will not be refunded their match entry fee.’

These policies will help ensure that as many people that would like to shoot will have that opportunity. I look forward to seeing you all very soon, and as always I would like to thank the numerous people that are involved in putting these matches together. Stay safe.

MRPA Annual Meeting

As a result of the Coronavirus Crisis, we postponed the Annual Meeting Scheduled in March of this year. Given the continued recommendation of "Social Distancing" the Board of Directors has decided to have a "virtual" Annual Membership Meeting this year.

We have scheduled that meeting for 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2020. Another email will be sent out prior to that date with instructions for attending that meeting. We will be using the MRPA Goto Meeting Account, and if accessed with a computer will allow real time review of our annual meeting materials. If you cannot attend with a computer or other device, you will be allowed to dial in, and the materials will be available at http://www.michrpa.org for download.

Division directors have been asked to conduct their division meetings prior to the membership meeting, so that all committee members and other officers up for election will be available during this membership meeting.

2019 Michigan 1000 yard Championship

The 2019 Michigan 1000 yard Championship was conducted on May 4-5, 2019 at the Marksmanship Training Center in Lake City, Michigan. Twenty-five (25) competitors attended, and enjoyed nice weather and the maiden voyage of ten (10) Shot Markers electronic targets.

A brief chat about the targets. They were purchased from Autotrickler.com and deployed through the efforts of the Michigan F-TR Team. For the first time use, only minor wiring errors were found on one of the targets. For anyone who has dealt with the issues with the Silver Mountain Targets at Midland, this was unbelievable. For two days the competitors had flawless service (other than the wiring issue mentioned previously). Saturday's 3x1000 finished at about 2:00 PM, and Sunday's 2x1000 finished before noon. Have to love no pit duty.

The F-Open Winner was Bret Solomon with a 963-28X. F-TR was won by Dale Lucy with a 931.22X. High Sling Shooter was Jamie Root with a 968-27X.

First Long Range Match of 2019!!!

Competitors;

Well it’s official: we’re less than a week away from our first match of the season as well as this will be our inaugural for going to electronic targets. I’ve got to say the amount of work that the Michigan F-TR have been doing to prep targets and get things ready for this match has been absolutely incredible. If you are one of these people that believes in the long range weather forecast its beginning to look like mother nature is going to be with us as well.

Just a couple things as reminders: If you haven’t done so PLEASE REGISTER AND PAY ON LINE. This is the only way I have to track the number of shooters that are registered for the match. As of right now, there are still spaces available. As said earlier, these are electronic targets. They do require a means of connecting. Whether it is a notepad, cell phone, or other, this will be required to be supplied by you, the competitor. MRPA will not be supplying these devices. Additionally, I would recommend an external battery pack just to help get through the day. And then, Last but not Least, remember to charge these devices every night before the match so they’ll be ready when you need them. I’m really looking forward to this transition in hopes that we can make everyone’s day at the match more enjoyable. I expect to be squadding from 7 to 7:30 a.m. on Saturday May 4, 2019. Please dress appropriately. And if you have not been to the MTC facility, you will need a range cart as the parking lot is not immediately adjacent to the firing line.

Dues Cost Increase

Due to increased operating costs, the Board of Directors reluctantly voted to increase the cost for annual dues to $30.00 per year for Adult Annual and Club Annual membership effective January 1, 2019.

The cost for Junior and life membership remains the same at $10.00 and $350.00 respectively.

Peter Church found this amongst the late Noel Sugden's material. Of note is the number of persons shown on the competitor list (309). Along with the number of persons who were competing in this particular match.

The results are eighteen pages long. Notably, this was all hand typed, probably on a manual typewriter. Maybe they had a adding machine to help with the calculations, but this was almost fifteen years before the first hand calculators, and about a quarter century before the IBM PC.

Look it over and enjoy the nostalgia.

Although every effort is made to process the order to Berger quickly at the end of October, deliveries may require months. I personally have generally received my order in March of the subsequent year. So, if you are buying to use in 2015, order from a distributor. If you can afford to wait until 2016 order now.

Target Pullers for Camp Perry

Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association Members:

The National Rifle Association is requesting support from the Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association to help the NRA fulfill its obligation to the international and national shooter community. The NRA has committed to supply target pullers at the 2014 US Fullbore National Championships as well as the 2015 US Fullbore National Championships and the 2015 World Championships.

The dates for these championships are August 4^th to 10^th in 2014 and August 1^st to 14^th in 2015. These championships are very important to the United States and the National Rifle Association. The last time the World Championships were held at Camp Perry was 1976. All of the world’s top shooters from each participating country will be there.

The NRA is expecting a record number of shooters from around the world as well as from all over the United States. Without target pullers the NRA will not be able to host the number of shooters that are expected and will have to turn people away. We don’t want to see that happen.

The NRA is offering $75 per day plus housing for each target puller. This is a great way to raise funds for your association and club. Just ten volunteers from your club could raise just over $5000 in the week of the US Fullbore Championships this year and much more in 2015.

Please contact Beth Epley at comphelp@nrahq.org or volunteer@nrahq.org to find out more about helping the NRA and at the same time helping your club to raise funds. Individuals are also welcome. Please post this letter and encourage individuals to sign up for this program.

Annual Membership Meeting

The Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association Annual Membership Meeting will be held on March 30, 2014 starting at 8:00 AM for registration, then 9:00 AM for Divisional meetings, followed by the Annual Membership meeting at 10:00 AM.

The meeting will be held at the Michigan State University Demmer Center at 4830 Jolly Road, Lansing, Michigan 48910.

Proposed By-Law Amendments

The Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association Board of Directors has discussed and approved the following Amendments to the Association By-Laws.

The rationale behind the changes, which would be considered minor, are to provide the Secretary sufficient time to prepare the annual report, including taxes, and to codify a practice to allow life memberships for affiliates.

Please take a moment to read them over, and be prepared to vote on their adoption during the 2013 Annual Membership Meeting on March 10, 2013.

2013 MRPA Proposed By-Law Changes

Section 1 - Annual Meetings

The Association shall conduct a meeting within the first seventy - five (75) days of the calendar year for the election of Officers and Directors and the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the meeting. The Board of Directors shall determine the exact date, time, and place of this meeting. Not less than thirty (30) days before the meeting a notice shall be sent to all members that states the date, time, and place of the annual meeting. Service of the notice of the annual meeting upon the members of the Association may be accomplished either through the Association’s official journal or by notice of mailing by first class with the postmark date of the notice being not less than thirty (30) days before the meeting.

Affiliated Organization Membership shall be open to all legally organized and operating organizations, within the State of Michigan, which have five or more members who subscribe to the purposes and objectives of the Association which make application and tender the required dues. Such membership shall be for a period of one calendar year.

Affiliated Organization Membership shall be open to all legally organized and operating organizations, within the State of Michigan. Affiliated Organizations must have five or more members. Affiliated Organizations must subscribe to the purposes and objectives of the Association.

Given that you have reached this point, you have discovered the new Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association Web Site. We have moved in this direction to create efficiencies in the management of the Association, and to serve our membership more effectively.

As we mature the new site you will see the ability to renew and pay for membership on-line, the ability to enter competitions on-line, and on-going blog posts and news from Division leads.
